• Study the task and methodology in detail
• Identify the different elements and allocate resources to each element
• Verify the current methodology or recommend a changed methodology
• Determine a standard time for each element
• Determine the critical path in performing the specific task
• Identify all possible constraints and decide how to exploit the constraints identified.
